My Hope is Built On

God is incredulous.

In Isaiah 44, God can’t get over the foolishness of someone cutting down a cypress or cedar and from the same tree trunk, burn wood to cook over, make a fire to keep you warm, and carve an idol to bow down to and worship.

And nobody seems to get it.

Nobody sees the foolishness of it.

The ESV footnote says, “God judges idolatrous worship with subrational blindness. This explains why the stupidity described in vv. 12-17 is not obvious to those involved.”

Here is the really alarming verse, “…He has shut their eyes, so that they cannot see, and their hearts, so that they cannot understand” (Isaiah 44:18).

God confirms in them the direction they are determined to take.

I realize this blog will sound too negative for many, but the Isaiah passage accurately describes much of the national dialogue going on around us today… a dialogue about issues that make no sense and leave us scratching our heads in disbelief.

It’s what happens when God is excluded from the life of a nation.

As a result, we are suffering a growing blindness. The laws and decisions of a nation without God will increasingly make no sense. Israel’s history, during the time of the prophets, teaches us that it doesn’t end well.

There is only one hope for the people of God in a time of subrational blindness.

It’s God Himself.

We must return to the Lord in repentance and prayer. And there is nowhere else for this to begin than in the Church. For the sake of our children and our children’s children, we must become a people of prayer.

Now!

He is our only hope.

  1. This nation needs the scales of blindness lifted so we can clearly see the direction we are heading away from God as well as our hearts pricked with conviction leading to repentance and once again holy living .
