Christmas Season Focus

You’ve heard of Mary and Martha, the two women in Luke’s Gospel, 10:38-42 who invited Jesus over for supper. Martha was a regular Martha Stewart. She prepped, cleaned and flew around the house at a brisk pace, trying to make everything perfect for the Lord. She was distracted.

Mary, by contrast, was focused, relaxed and in tune. She sat at Jesus’ feet, soaking in the goodness of His presence and hanging on His every word.”

Before we get any farther into this Christmas season, I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on the following questions:

Which one of these two ladies would best describe you during the Christmas season? Are you caught up in all the distractions of decorating, shopping, baking, cooking, going to parties, and all in all, just trying to make everything perfect?

Or are you more like Mary, spending time daily in the presence of the Lord, worshiping, praying and reading His Word? Are you taking time to focus on Him; the One who is the reason for this season that we celebrate?

If you have come to the conclusion that you are much more of Martha, don’t be discouraged. It’s not too late to change course, slow down and spend some daily quiet time with the Lord. Take time to ponder and reflect upon the true story of Christmas.

If you are more of a Mary, continue to keep your focus on Him and don’t let Satan distract you from what is important because I promise you, he surely will try his best to get your focus off of the Lord.
