No Intention of Leaving

I love the connectivity that social media provides us. I am able to touch and be touched by friendships from places and times in my past.

One of the downsides  of social media is the platform it provides for the worst of our posturing and parading. I know I have been guilty of doing just that. It’s not attractive on any of us.

This morning I ran into an antidote.

1 Chronicles 17:16.

Just a little verse.

Most days I might have run right past it.

It didn’t even merit a mention in the footnotes of my study Bible.

But, in my opinion, it is THE characteristic of a man or woman of God that He is able to use.

David has just learned that he won’t be the one to build the temple for the Lord’s presence. Someone else will do that. Instead, the Lord is going to give David a “son” who will build the temple and rule on David’s throne forever (Jesus).

Here comes the verse!

“Then King David went in and sat before the Lord and prayed.” (1 Chronicles 17:16)

David went in. He took the initiative to step away from those things and places that typically occupied his attention in order to enter God’s presence.

And when he got there he sat down. He was there for a while with no intention of leaving.

This is everything for us.

It’s the only place where things make sense.

It’s the only place where we receive heaven’s perspective.

It’s the only place where we will ever find peace and contentment.

And the NLT commentators didn’t even give it a mention.

Here is one more thing that comes from “sitting before the Lord”… genuine humility!!

Look at David’s prayer when he gets himself to where God is…

“Who am I…

“What is my family…

“You speak as though I am something…

“You have honored me even though you know what I’m really like…

“O Lord, there is no one like you…

It reminds me of the Gospel song recorded by Tamela Mann. “Take me to the King, I don’t have much to bring…”

I know I’m convicted by these verses. I want to be a man with David’s heart.
